The fact that students learn and work practically and innovatively at the OWL University of Applied Sciences has now become clear once again in the city hall of Lemgo: The center roundabout at the Braker Weg and Bunsenstraße in Lemgo is to be redesigned, which is why 22 Master students of the Detmold School of Architecture and Interior Design presented possible sculpture referencing to the adjacent Innovation Campus Lemgo of the University of Applied Sciences Ostwestfalen-Lippe.
The task was to develop ideas on how the triad of education, research and economics at the roundabout in Lemgo can be depicted artistically in a sculpture. More than 20 plans and models were presented to a jury of representatives of the city of Lemgo and the OWL University of Applied Sciences in the City Hall of Lemgo. The models of the three students Janina Fleischhammer, Pascal Völz and Frederic Zaremba finally made the race. The students were expected to present their designs again on March 12 in the Cultural Committee of the City of Lemgo.
“The basic idea of my model is derived from the logo of the Innovation Campus Lemgo. The triangles used are intertwined and support each other. Similar to the successive and interdependent topics of the Innovation Campus Lemgo: education, research and business “, Janina Fleischhammer describes her design. Pascal Völz and Frederic Zaremba, whose models reflect the dynamic process at the Innovation Campus, have also been guided by this initial situation.
Professor Hans Sachs, who oversees the work of the Master of Integrated Design and Master of Integrated Architectural Design Masters students in this project, explains: “Now we will discuss the realization of the project with the students and determine the costs to build on and in communication with all stakeholders of the project, Innovation Campus Lemgo ‘to develop a plan for a possible implementation. “
“With the Innovation Campus Lemgo, we are creating an ideal environment for combining education and science, innovation and production as well as urban and regional culture in the best possible way. And with the already awarded designs of our students, we can also look forward to an optical guidepost at a central junction between city and university, “says University President Professor Jürgen Krahl, who was part of the jury.
The Innovation Campus Lemgo concentrates actors from vocational and academic education, research, craft and industry along the entire innovation chain of the digital economy. The campus area covers the area in the south of Lemgo around the OWL university and the Fraunhofer IOSB-INA, the Centrum Industrial IT, the Smart Factory WLL, the vocational colleges and the Lipperlandhalle. Since January 2018, the Innovation Campus Lemgo is organized as an association. Founding members are the University of Applied Sciences OWL, the Old Hanseatic City of Lemgo, the district of Lippe, the Fraunhofer IOSB-INA, the Kreishandwerkerschaft Paderborn-Lippe, the Lipperlandhalle GmbH and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Lippe zu Detmold.
Architecture at the University OWL
The bachelor’s degree program Architecture is taught at the OWL University of Detmold. In drafts, the students learn the basics of designing and constructing and develop their creativity further. The master program deepens the contents of the bachelor program, whereby the scientific approach is in the foreground. Graduates will find work opportunities in urban planning or old building renewal as well as in the planning, organization and management of construction tasks as project and site managers or in adjoining professional fields of construction such as marketing, consulting, media or assessments.
