The FabLab | OWL is an open tech-workshop of the Institute for Science Dialogue (IWD) of the University of Applied Sciences Ostwestfalen-Lippe and is located on the campus of the university in Lemgo, as well as in Detmold at the Detmold school of Architecture and Interior Architecture.
As an open workshop, in a global network of FabLabs, which uses state-of-the-art digital manufacturing technologies, the FabLab | OWL is available to students, students and private visitors as well as companies. The goal is to give everyone the opportunity to put their own ideas into action. The digital manufacturing processes range from additive methods such as 3D printing to various subtractive methods such as CNC milling. A process chain that extends from the development process through prototype construction to the completion of end products is made possible. An offer of conventional tools and workbenches is also an integral part of the FabLab, thus complementing not only a special electronics workstation, but also the opportunity to become inspirational and creative.
In all our activities, we adhere to the international Fab Charter, which regulates the work and interaction of all FabLabs. However, the integrative idea is particularly important to us: young people, old people, of whatever gender and origin – here, all members are equal and form a community that sensitizes, helps and ideally inspires each other.
The Fablab | OWL opens in early 2018 and provides the basis for diverse, creative and innovative projects. By providing state-of-the-art production technologies, know-how combined with a cosmopolitan membership structure, it is possible to create a highly inspiring and creative work environment. The orientation is always geared to the needs of users of the FabLab.
Diverse on-demand workshops, which among other things qualify for work on the machines, complete the range of the FabLab.
