OPEN MAKER SPACE at Glasstec fair in Düsseldorf Oct 23rd – 27th

Students of the Detmold School of Architecture and Interior Architecture, the Technical University Cologne and the European Facade Network EFN start their semester at the Glasstec trade fair with a ‘kick-off workshop’. Hereby visitors of the Glasstec get an insight into the development process of prototypes for innovative façade systems, which are designed and produced by students in a temporary FabLab, the OPEN MAKER SPACE which is equipped with 3D printers, CNC laser cutters and cutting plotters. The results will be presented on Friday at 13.00 o’clock at the trade booth.
In the ‘Design & Make’ workshop, the students will develop prototypes of nodes and structural systems for building Glass Connect envelopes, taking into account aesthetic, functional and technical aspects. The architects, designers and engineers of tomorrow will learn to think outside the box in order to develop ideas and models for products and technical details in interdisciplinary groups.
The direct linking of different processes in the development, fabrication and assembly of facades creates numerous possibilities for the optimization of development and production processes. In addition, digital networking and automation in planning, fabrication and assembly leads to numerous innovative design approaches, functions and forms in the building industry, especially in façade construction.
